The City Rises - 2026

Piano Trio

The City Rises draws inspiration from Italian Futurist paintings, reimagining their fascination with speed and energy in today’s digital world. In 2025, our lives move at a similar velocity, shaped by constant connection, automation, and acceleration, yet what’s missing is an imagination for the future itself. The piece unfolds as an ever-evolving texture, where sounds collide, overlap, and reshape each other like a living city. It asks whether progress still carries us forward together, or whether it has become a motion without direction.

Written specifically for the Bedford Trio, the six-minute work employs extended techniques and layered gestures to create a sense of perpetual transformation, a musical landscape in which tension, movement, and resonance build and dissolve continuously. The City Rises draws inspiration from Italian Futurist paintings, reimagining their fascination with speed and energy in today’s digital world.
